Frequently Asked Questions

Why choose AATC?

When it comes to treating anxiety, experience matters. Our team is composed exclusively of experienced and doctoral-level psychologists who specialize in anxiety, OCD, and related conditions. This means you're not just getting support — you're getting expert care from clinicians who are deeply trained in the most effective, research-backed treatments available today.

Just as you wouldn’t rely on a general practitioner for heart surgery, effective anxiety treatment requires the skill of a true specialist. With us, you’ll receive personalized, evidence-based care that’s designed to help you feel better — and stay better, often within a shorter time frame than general therapy.

Does AATC offer telehealth (virtual therapy)?

We offer telehealth (video-based sessions) for both adults and children. We are happy to meet with you either fully via telehealth, or a combination of telehealth and  in-person sessions. Also, many of our clinicians are able to see clients in states other than Pennsylvania (currently this includes 42 states, please contact us to see if your state is included).

Why choose AATC for telehealth over other telehealth platforms?

Unlike many telehealth platforms that rely on therapists with varying levels of training, our team consists exclusively of highly trained, doctoral-level psychologists who specialize in anxiety, OCD, and related conditions. When you choose us, you're you’re working with clinicians who not only understand the complexities of these conditions, but who are also equipped with the most effective, evidence-based tools to help you overcome them.

Our clinicians are available to provide telehealth in 42 states. Please contact us to inquire if your state is included.

Why choose AATC for your child or teen?

With a long-standing reputation for excellence, we specialize in helping children, adolescents, and young adults thrive—using the most current, evidence-based strategies, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). Parents turn to us because of our proven success and compassionate approach to mental health care.

Our dedicated, experienced team of child and adolescent psychologists knows how to connect with young people—creating a safe, supportive space where they feel heard, respected, and at ease. Every treatment plan is thoughtfully tailored to meet your child’s unique needs, both now and into the future.

Because we are specialists, our treatment is not only highly effective—it often leads to faster progress than more generalized approaches. This means your child can begin to feel better, sooner.

To keep therapy engaging and effective, we integrate age-appropriate approaches such as play, creativity, and interactive learning techniques. These tools help children and teens learn CBT-based strategies in a way that feels natural, relatable, and empowering.

We support your child's  growth with care that’s expert, evidence-based, and truly personalized.

Will I be involved in treatment for my child?

For children and younger teens, we’ve found that involving parents and caregivers can be extremely beneficial. Whether through brief check-ins or participation in full sessions, your involvement helps reinforce the strategies your child is learning in therapy and supports long-term progress at home.

For older teens, parent involvement can be discussed with the clinician and will depend on your teen’s individual needs, preferences, and comfort level—along with yours.

With your permission, we’re also happy to collaborate with school psychologists, guidance counselors, teachers, psychiatrists and other professionals involved in your child’s care.

How do I know if treatment is right for me and/or my child?

How are adults and children matched with the right clinician?

Dr. Lori Kasmen meets with all children and adolescents (18 years and younger) and their caregivers, while Dr. Linda Welsh meets with all adults for an initial intake session. At this session, we will learn more about you and your goals for treatment.

Following this first meeting, clients are thoughtfully matched with a clinician whose expertise, therapeutic style, scheduling availability, and any specific preferences align with their needs. This personalized, in-depth approach not only helps ensure you begin with a practitioner who is an optimal fit—it also saves you the time, stress, and uncertainty of visiting multiple practices in search of the right provider.

How long are therapy sessions?

Sessions last approximately 45-50 minutes, with longer session times available if determined to be necessary to address treatment needs.

What is the frequency of sessions?

Most clients are seen weekly, but because treatment is customized, you/your child and your clinician will collaborate on creating a session schedule that works best.

How long does treatment take?

Length of treatment depends on many factors, such as treatment goals, the severity of symptoms, time available to devote to treatment, etc. We can better provide an estimate after the initial evaluation when we have a better understanding of your goals.

What are some of the treatment modalities you use?

Our clinicians have expertise in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Habit Reversal Training (HRT), Cognitive Behavioral Intervention for Tics (CBIT), Trauma-focused CBT, Behavioral Activation for depression, supportive therapy and psychodynamic therapy.

Do you offer intensive treatment?

Yes, when indicated, we can meet with clients multiple times per week.

Do you have group therapy?

We offer group therapy for adults, teens and kids. Click here to review our current group offerings.

Do you accept insurance?

We are an out-of-network provider for all insurance. This means that you may receive some reimbursement for sessions from your insurance company if you have out-of-network benefits with your plan. Please contact your insurance company to confirm.

We will provide you with a monthly insurance reimbursement statement (also known as a "superbill") that you may submit to your insurance. We are happy to help you with submitting.

Why aren’t you “in-network” with any insurance company?

Insurance companies can impose limitations on the type and duration of treatment, and these limitations can adversely affect treatment outcomes.

Do you prescribe medication?

All clinicians at our center are psychologists and are not trained or licensed to prescribe medication. We are happy to make recommendations for physicians who have experience in prescribing medication for your symptoms. We are also happy to collaborate with your prescribing physician.

Good Faith Estimate

You have the right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” explaining how much your medical care will cost. Under the law, health care providers need to give patients who don’t have insurance or who are not using insurance an estimate of the bill for medical items and services.

  • You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of any non-emergency items or services. This includes related costs like medical tests, prescription drugs, equipment, and hospital fees.
  • Make sure your health care provider gives you a Good Faith Estimate in writing at least 1 business day before your medical service or item. You can also ask your health care provider, and any other provider you choose, for a Good Faith Estimate before you schedule an item or service.
  • If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill.
  • Make sure to save a copy or picture of your Good Faith Estimate.
